I've previously reviewed the Fluke AC285 Aligator Clips. These are their little brothers. Just like 285's the AC220's require a double banana jack test lead to work. I'm using Fluke's TL224 Silcone leads. However since searching I've found two other manufacturers that make this style of lead. Still I prefer Fluke's silicone rubber leads.Once wired, these test leads (which are bigger than I expected, see the photo in the product page) are Fluke's "Premium" answer to the more traditional "over the point" slide on aligator clips. The jaws when open are insulated on the outside and the operator's fingers are nearly two inches back from that. These are great for clamping onto bare wire (up to #4), small & medium lugs (such as standard bus bar and CB lugs), or the screws on switches and outlets. The jaws open wide enough to clamp onto 3/8" diameter surfaces and might be able to handle 1/2". Benchtops technitions and hobbiests I'm sure can think of a few more uses. Unlike the "over the point" clips these a secure to the test leads and I feel safe using them for hands free diagnostics even if they get bumped. Some Fluke products lead me to question the worth vs. the extra cost...but not these. These are a must of anyone that needs true hands free measurement!
